The Rockfort Temple, Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), TN, India
The Rockfort Temple of Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) is an important Hindu pilgrimage site located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is believed to have been built in the 3rd century CE by the Pallava king Mahendravarman I. The Rockfort complex also includes a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, as well as two other smaller shrines. Interestingly, the Pallava dynasty influenced lands as far as Cambodia. The temple is particularly known for its impressive architecture, which includes a grand gateway, a massive fort, and a 83-meter high rock tower. The temple is an important pilgrimage site, and it is believed that Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva here on his way to Sri Lanka.
